The smallest ele takes to the head of the valley....
Well, I'm surprised none of you have called, written, SMS'd or e-mailed - all you folks out there in webcam land seem to have missed a big change in the night-time life of the elephant camp, switch on the camera during evening hours now and, instead of a playful little baby and a tired Mum to fill the lens you get, well, nothing!
Bua Tong's inability or unwillingness to control little Raimon has, for some time now, been the cause of a lot of head scratching here in camp - every time we let them out - instead of sensibly keeping her baby between her forepaws, Raimon ran, Bua Tong followed scattering cars, houses, looms and chickens behind her.
The fact that we had to keep the little one penned up has caused problems for Mum, she has slept but has stayed in camp, never lying down, hasn't really had time for a proper bath - of the dust or the water variety.
So I am more than triply please do announce, as the nights are getting warmer, that K. Au has now built a new night-time home for them at the top of our elephant camp valley so both Mum and baby can watch over us, just we watch over them - nothing to do with suddenly becoming camera shy.

Hi, My last few logins to the webcam do not seem to have been very successful, I'm not sure if anyone else has had the same trouble. A couple of weeks back there was delight in watching the flickering fires being tended with real care, but no much sign of Raimon as the camera was facing outwards more. My last few viewings seem to be of a static picture which did not seem to be updating, this might explain why you have not had any response to the missing eles!! I will let you know in a few days if it seems to be the same.
As far as your little problem goes with Bua Tong and Raimon....I'm afraid I will have leave that to the experts!!

Dear Debbie
Thanks for this, I've checked and it seems to be functioning well from this end, the only thing I can think of is that perhaps you're on at a busy time for either the camera or our internet - we are the last stop on a very long internet line to the top of Thailand!
Apologies anyway.
John

Thanks for the up-to the-minute coverage! I guess I'm not looking at the cam when it is nighttime there. So, John, you know I have questions... mostly I would just love to know more details... Do the girls seem happy in their new home? Is this a welcome change for them? Are they cautious? Are they by themselves up on the hill? Do you expect that Bua Thong will lie down for some serious rest? Is it because there is more room? Are they in a pen, only larger? Do they have a roof? Are they both chained now instead of pen? Hey, they just left the pen and not toward the shower area...are they going to their 2nd home now? Anyway thanks for any more info you can share. Finally, not sure if I have mentioned this but I love when K. Au sprays Bua Thong and Rai Rai with the hose. Oh my gosh, just when you think a little elephant can not get any cuter! Usually I see this between 1:00 and 3:00 in the Thai afternoon. OK, happy for all of you that it is getting warmer there. Best, Teri
