Half metre bugs out at Yonok (there must be something in the errr... ummm... leaves?)

Mick and Dowroong out at the Yonok wetland project spotted this 45cm stick insect, worthy of a short note and a couple of pics...

...not entirely sure what this big fella would be prey for, or even which species he might come from (entomologists please) but he'd be pretty near the bottom of the food chain whatever might prey upon him (in a quick internet search to found out what the prime predator might be I came across the British Stick Insect Foundation page for stick insect recipes - guess that answers the first question but poses several others) would certainly need an healthy appetite for an insectivore...

...reading on, the recipes were provided by a British POW from Burma - he might not be able to identify the species but at least he might identify the flavour and best condiments for us.
