Good Luck America - Thailand's elephant beer is coming to town...
As the article says it is Thailand's number one selling beer, however one is tempted to suggest that it is beloved more for its wonderful brand positioning (being the cheapest and strongest beer on the market) than its taste; it always gives me a headache and the first sip makes me shudder (though my brother swears by it) in much the same way Australian Victoria and Melbourne Bitters used to. Maybe I'm getting old!
Nowadays, if you take a trek (in the saddle, no drinking and driving) on one of the Anantara elephants we'll give you a free chilled can each - it is, after all, elephant beer.
Good luck America!

Chang Beer, Thailand's No. 1 Selling Beer, Comes to U.S. Backed by Powerful Marketing Effort
New York (PRWEB) August 10, 2007 -- New York City-based International Beverage Holdings USA (IBHL USA) today announced the U.S. availability of Chang Beer, Thailand's No. 1 selling beer. Newly formed IBHL USA is the exclusive importer of Chang and is supporting the U.S. introduction of the super premium import with a powerful marketing campaign for on-premise and off-premise customers with a keen focus on the growing number of more than 5,000 U.S. restaurants that serve Thai and Asian Fusion cuisine.
"Chang is an extremely smooth, crisp and full-bodied premium 100% malt lager that is delicious, and the perfect accompaniment to flavorful Asian cuisine," said John Lennon, president of IBHL USA. "We already have commitments from many restaurants in our key markets and expect Chang to be a top-seller in these establishments and in many more as we roll out Chang across the U.S."
In the U.S. Chang is now available in two popular size bottles, 6-packs of 330 ml. (11.2 oz.) bottles and 640 ml. (22 oz.) bottles. Lennon said that until the arrival of Chang there has been little choice for Thai beer in the U.S. Chang provides the perfect beverage complement for restaurants to enhance their complete dining experience while growing profits.
The dark amber Chang bottles feature the distinctive green and gold logo with a pair of white elephants facing each other under a golden fountain. Chang translates in Thai as elephant -- an animal known for its superior strength and mental capacity and is to Thais what the bald eagle is to Americans. The facing elephants represent harmony and happiness, while the golden fountain is a symbol of prosperity and the rich color of the premium lager. The essence of the Chang brand is "True Harmony."
Chang promotional and premium materials capture the beauty, richness, mystique and wonderment of Thailand. Everything from coasters, menu cards, table tents and signs capture the Chang mystique: "Thailand is an exotic country with a rich history of exotic spices and intense flavors carefully balanced and blended into a unique brewing masterpiece to develop the prefect refreshment - the ideal accompaniment for flavorful foods. Award-winning Chang is a full-bodied premium 100% malt lager beer, which is always smooth, crisp, and refreshing -- simply delicious."

Chang Beer launched to UK pubs
19 October, 2007
By John Porter
Premium beer matched to Thai menus
With Thai food now a staple of many pub menus, the brewer behind Thailand’s best selling beer is launching a concerted assault on the UK market.
Chang Beer will be imported directly from Thailand by Chang UK, a newly created company within the InterBev Group, owner of the brand.
The aim Is to grow Chang beyond the specialist Thai restaurant market, with pubs and bars that feature Thai dishes a clear target for growth for the brand.
Chang is being marketed as a premium five per cent ABV, with a strong emphasis on its suitability as a match for Oriental food flavours.
While there are around 1,100 stand-alone Thai restaurants in the UK, mainly in the South East, pub operators such as the Orchid Group have embraced Thai food. The group operates specialist Thai menus in its Dragon pubs, as well as featuring Thai food in other parts of the group. Fuller’s also offers Thai menus at some of its London pubs.
Chang is the Thai word for elephant, an animal that is revered in Thai religion, and the shape of the Chang branded glasses is based on the shape of an elephant’s foot.
The brand has in recent seasons been the sponsor of Everton football club, and has been available at its Goodison Park ground. However, this is motivated largely by the popularity of Premiership football in Thailand.
Roger Barrey, Interbev Group’s director of beer – international, says: “More and more people are discovering Thai cuisine as part of their travels and this has contributed to the increased interest in Thai food in the UK.
“With the launch of Chang we’re now giving them the opportunity to enjoy an authentic Thai beer which has a flavour profile which perfectly complements the combination of delicate, fragrant, spicy notes of Thai dishes.
“The growing number of pubs which are serving Thai food is clearly an important market for us.”
A distribution agreement with cash & carry group Booker has just been agreed. Pubs interested in stocking Chang can also use the Find Chang web locator, using the link on the right.

Thai beer from Chang UK
(29 November 2007 11:08)
Thai beer brand Chang is imported directly from Thailand by Chang UK, a newly created division of the InterBev Group.
The 5% abv Chang beer combines the flavour of a full-bodied beer with light citrus notes to complement the tastes and textures of Thai cuisine. Golden honey in colour, it has a complex aroma - a smoky, peaty blend of sweet green apples and vanilla - and a balanced flavour which the company describes as crisp, smooth and refreshing. It has been nominated for gold and silver prizes at the Australian International Beer Awards.
The Chang logo is prominently featured and incorporates two white elephants, symbolising happiness, harmony and prosperity, and a golden fountain representing the colour and quality of Chang beer.
Alongside its beer the company is offering Chang-branded glasses to restaurants, subtly based on the shape of an elephant's foot. The company is initially targeting Thai restaurants and pubs and bars serving Thai food.
The beer is packaged in cases of 24 x 330ml bottles and 12 x 640ml bottles for restaurants and bars.

Beer In Art #59: Kitti Narod’s Rivers of Amber
by Jay Brooks on January 3, 2010
in Art & Beer, Beers
Today’s works of art is by a young Thai artist named Kelli Narod. He was commissioned by Chang Beer , the best-selling beer in Thailand, to paint an “interpretation” of their label. He came up with Rivers of Amber .
Here’s a description of the work:
I love the look of this piece, especially having just watched the color-saturated Sita Sings the Blues . A lot of art from this region of the world uses dense, colorful designs where every square inch of the canvas is used.
Narod is appranetly a self-taught artist who “creates unique paintings of wildlife with brilliant dots of color.” According to a biography on Absolute Arts :
The Chang beer label, owned by ThaiBev . In Thai, the word “Chang” means elephant. Chang also has an interesting looking Thai Good Food Guide online.
You can see much more of her colorful artwork at Easy Art , the Magic Art Gallery and Thai Fine Art Online . You can purchase prints of his work at several online shops, including the X-Ray Mag Store or Easy Art .
