PS from Four Seasons - Pachyderms, Pinot and Pumps

...Carolyn and Perry are better known to regular readers as the supporters of Nam Chok, I don't think there is much else I can add that isn't written below.

Visit their vinyards, drink their wine, wear their shoes - all great (and pleasurable) ways to help our eles, more power to the Vintners Arms.

Pachyderms, Pinot and Pumps

Elephants...wine...shoes. Not three words you'd normally string together. But they are the foundation of an important program conceived at Four Seasons Tented Camp, Golden Triangle, Thailand. Now, erase the image in your mind of Dumbo teetering on giant stilettos while sipping a glass of Chardonnay and let us connect the dots.

Last fall, Napa Valley vintners Carolyn and Perry Butler were holidaying in Thailand when they witnessed a shocking but all-too-common sight: a mother elephant and her baby dodging traffic on Bangkok's buzzing streets. Later, while staying at the luxurious Four Seasons Tented Camp on Thailand's northernmost tip, they learned of the Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation (GTAEF), which rescues elephants from the cities and gives them safe haven in the country's dense jungles.

Not content with making a one-time donation to the GTAEF, the Butlers tapped into their personal passions to find ways to help the gentle giants. Returning home, they created a new wine for their Juslyn Vineyard label called "Rescue," with 100 percent of the proceeds going to GTAEF. Then, Carolyn made a call to Italian shoe designer Cesare Casadei, who stepped up to the cause with a new design — a peep-toe patent leather d'Orsay pump in a black-and-white animal print — that would also raise funds for the elephant-rescue mission. Now, more and more elephants can roam the grounds at Four Seasons Tented Camp, enjoying the quiet scenery and tasty food (well, if leaves, bark and the occasional banana count) as much as the guests!

So no, we're not out of our trunks. There's good reason to use the words elephant, wine and shoes in one sentence.
