Our roving vet reports in....
Mor Pap, the foundation sponsored roaming vet has sent us his reports with promises of photo's to follow.
Following a week here in the elephant camps during which he set up a medicine cabinet and a list of medicines we should keep in stock, he performed very basic first aid training for the mahouts using the latest medical thinking as well as traditional methods already learned.
He then went down to the Thai Elephant Conservation Centre to assist in their hospital where he helped with their general case load as well as being directly responsible for the treatment of three elephants who had been admitted to the hospital from various camps around the North.
For the last ten days of last month we sent and sponsored the transportation for the T.E.C.C. vets to a wildlife veterinary conference and training session at Khao Kiew the open zoo and Elephant detention centre where he got hands-on with several of the arrested street walkers as well as learning more about other wildlife and performing an inspection on an (anaesthetised) tiger.
By the end of his first year with us Thailand should have a truly multi-purpose vet.
The Adopt-a-Vet scheme is run from the general Foundation fund at GTAEF with training from the T.E.C.C. Mor Pap will be in residence at Anantara and Four Seasons from the 17th - 24th of April where he is hoping to chat with guests and tell of his experiences over the last month.
