Stealing Sand from Burma...
...it is not often one gets to indulge in healthy exercise, bond with one's team, do one's job and increase the size of one's host country at the same time.
Thailand's lack of imperial ambitions notwithstanding it is that time of year that we start to bathe the elephants in the Ruak River and to make this safe we need to build steps into the swampy banks.
So the Anantara mahouts and I climbed into the Elephant Camp boat (yet to be named or, more correctly, already called several unprintable names because of her sputtering engine and need for constant bailing - what can I say, she was a rescue too!) with several hundred empty rice bags, some twine and a couple of shovels.
Though we cruised the river the only sand we could find happened to be on the Burmese bank so we slipped the Asian Queen (now named!) into stealth mode (ie. switched the engine off) splashed ashore and did the necessary.
Don't go telling anyone will you?
