B...B...But that thing's huge...
Dear All
I know that many of you will be welcoming friends and relatives into your homes over the festive period a chance to get together and to get gluttonous; since I have lived over here I've missed the lazy goodwill of the family Christmas, this year, not to be left out I have invited new friends into the camp - let's face it gluttony on the part of our residents was never going to be a problem, the only saving grace being they don't eat turkey or drink wine (the mahouts would probably go for the Sherry so we'll keep that a secret!).
For our busy season we have rented two star elephants from Boon Lott's Elephant Sanctuary, eles who would have been at a little loose end as Katherine has gone home for her winter fund raising spree (and probably a little of that family Christmas spirit - though I know she is heart broken to have left her ele family below).
So, introducing Pang Tong (seen here looking on as part of her mahout training training, though her eyes seem to be on the bananas) she is the mother of Boon Lott, the little ele that Katherine originally rescued and tried so hard to save...
...and the truly impressive, amazing See Daw Sommai, a big ex-logging bull that was donated to Katherine to help look after and clean up after he was burned in a forest fire some years ago. He has quite a bit of scarring and his ears are ragged but he has calm, gentle eyes and a massive girth. I haven't done the foot circumference trick to see how tall he is but tall he is, luckily, with Boun Liang away on his musth island Sommai appears to have eyes only for Pang Tong so we shouldn't see any fighting between my big-but-not-quite-as-big boy and the giant Sommai
Great to have them with us!
