Tired storks in Nepal?
Word comes in from Carolyn Syangbo of Durbar Associates who has just spent a week at my old home, Tiger Tops Jungle Lodge in the heart of Chitwan National Park in Nepal.
Carolyn reports:
Carolyn reports:
"Just returned from a week at Tiger Tops where we met Shanti Kali, Romeo's [Chitwan's maverick and lustful wild bull - a one ele breeding programme] "Love Child" conceived we think during WEPA 2004, do you remember the delayed final?? Shanti is just over one month old and absolutely adorable."
For those not in the know, WEPA is the World Elephant Polo Association world championships held annually at Tiger Tops.

Dear John, I wanted to say how much we enjoyed the update about Poon Larb and Lynchee, especially her new habit of blowing raspberries!! She sounds full of beans, which is great - and it's marvellous to know her mum is fat and is no longer the poor skinny waif you rescued, that was wonderful to hear - I would still like to get hold of whoever threw them out, but I will content myself with imagining all the horrible pestilences I'd hex them with. The new baby sounds so gorgeous (at your previous home in Nepal) is the little one a he or a she? - 'bye for now, I do need those grey cells! - Shirley

Dear Shirley
Full of beans she certainly is, today on her morning walk/play she was more intent on practising her rumbling and breaking the gardeners' stand pipe - but still every day is different, tomorrow could be a raspberry day!
Well, it is the loss of the guy who threw them out, if he'd decided to keep them both they certainly wouldn't be as fat and shiny as they are now, so it all worked out for the best.
Regarding Shanti Kali, sorry, I should have said, she's a girl - Nepali elephants suffixed with the name Kali are female (named for Kali the strong and vengeful mother Goddess).
Thanks
John
